Distance covered

Anyone track what distances they cover over 90 mins?

I'd be intrigued with what people cover

Depends on the level. At L3 and contrib games I would routinely cover over 11km, whereas at grass roots no matter how hard I work I struggle to get over 9km

Open age 8+ k have managed 10 in a very fast competitive game on a large 4G pitch.....those were the days..

Used to regularly top 10K. For those who suggest, as someone did in a previous thread, that distance hints that my positioning was poor, it wasn't. I worked with CARs who didn't give offside and I worked bloody hard to get to be in a credible position.

8-10k dependent on level and also teams, haven't clocked the 11k yet just can't make myself run the extra 25 yards into the box as I watch a ball sail wide to add the extra distance. I know I should but when you see it going and know it's going it's hard to motivate to run in :(

had a FITBIT for my first few games (before it packed in) and i was doing 12-14k, far far too much running around a little headless to be honest... trimmed that down to 9-11k lowest i think i have been is 8.5k

Is fitbit gps? I find non gps to be grossly innaccurate. I had a samsung gear before my polar and I kid u not I could hit 13-14k without working too hard. It struggled to recognise difference between running, jogging, walking, crabbing and Clocked distance at a set stride length per step. Since I got my polar I get much more accurate readings. I've never had a fitbit before so I cant speak for its accuracy but Id be surprised, in fact, impressed at anyone hitting 14 km in a game.
Back to the OP it all depends on the level. Without NARs I can do in excess of 10 working hard to be in credible positions. Additional distances created by positioning at corners and throw ins as I am further down field as a starting position. With NARs again standard dependent usually between 8-9km maybe a little more.

It's not, and you're right, it's very inaccurate. I've worn both at the same time and the fitbit was miles off.

Most GPS are not very accurate either unless you're running in a straight line or spending several seconds in each new position. Even tested round a 400m track they tend to under read.

no not GPS and i did think it was a bit suspect which was why when it packed up i didnt bother getting another one. However , at the time what it did get me thinking about was that if i was doing that much, then it was probably too much, and therefore my positioning could be a little more considered. In that respect, indirectly it was a valuable tool. :)

Don't be telling me that I will have to run around with a metre stick now...wonder where I could put the handle?

haha, well i'm happy to be doing anything at all after a specialist 'advised' me that i wouldnt be able to run at all a few years back
Well done you mate for not giving up...I know a few refs who run around 20k a game..........oops sorry I meant 20 metres from one edge of the centre circle to the other!

Yes but we do it quite often, at least three times each half.......
On another note have you ever looked at the GPS plot of your match and seen how much of the pitch you actually covered?

I have.........

Have worn my GPS for every match I've done (doubles as my second watch) and with sitting down and working it out exactly my average is probably about 7k in the middle and about 3-4k on the line.

Obviously it depends on the game, and the majority of the pitches around me tend to be on the smaller side.

Yes I do and I appear to have an aversion to the last 10 yards towards the corners unless something exciting is happening!

I have but never really thought about what it tells me..just looks like my neice has been scribbling all over my screen. Here's a view of a game I did recently with NARs.. it tells me I really leave them to it. This looks like I spent a lot of time in the middle but running through it im moving around alot. Theres just heavy footfall through that area I think.
