Club marks

Hi all,

I have had my first club marks back and wanted to know if they are good, bad or average? Does the losing team typically give a lower mark?

Home = 75

Away = 80

Total Mark = 155

Average = 77%

The Referee Store
all depends on the wider averages across all games and all referees within that league/area.

on face value they look 'good' but impossible to tell really from one game.

some clubs mark irrespective of the score while others will have one particular incident where they feel wronged and mark you down for it (even if they won).

Individual marks from clubs are too variable to draw too much information from.

Both of those feel like solid middling numbers - but does that mean you had a solid, middling game? Or does it mean you were amazing and they didn't pay much attention? Or does it mean you were sloppy and awful but they couldn't be bothered writing the detailed report they have to if you're marked low? And that's without throwing in the league context or what the context of these two clubs are - do they normally mark referees around 90 and these marks actually reflect really poorly? 🤷‍♂️

As much as it's a shame to say, you can't really read too much into individual club marks. They're much more likely to be something to do with how favourable your decisions were. And also remember that it's not why the manager is there - he's going to be worried about his team, his subs, his tactics and about a dozen other things before referee marks even come into his head. You'll get some information in the aggregate from how your marks compare to the league average across a season, but for information on how an individual performance went, you need to rely on your gut feelings about the match and very occasionally observer reports.
