    He was a drunken spectator who rang onto the FOP, and has history.

    While prison sentence is proper, the length should be longer for it to be a example. Needs also a ban from all football grounds for lifetime!

    They could give him a season ticket for Hillsborough, he'll be turning up at Police Stations at 3pm to ease his suffering!!

    Not sure about the attitude of the ref in question about not wanting the scrote jailed. Well, publicly not wanting the scrote jailed anyway.

    Pretty cowardly to knock someone out from behind.

    It is things like this that give the Ref Support campaign to allow referees to wear cameras weight.

    Of course in this instance the right outcome was achieved, although I believe the sentence should have been harsher, and the spectator banned from all football for life, but that decision rests with the courts.

    He was lucky that there were people who a) helped and b) gave evidence to the Police etc.

    There are some matches I've had where if I was attacked like this ref I would expect to wake up in an empty field with nothing but a headache.
