The Fixture I Was Dreading Has Landed In My Inbox

The inevitable has happened. Last season I refereed this derby fixture and it was probably my worst ever performance. Made a complete pig's ear of the 2nd half in particular. In my inbox for Saturday. Press confirm and get ready! Pre - match and first 15 minutes crucial.

Can someone explain how a rugby match lasts 20 minutes longer than it should?

Stepped Approach = Tipping off the Opposition

Good competitive derby game today (OA). One young lad made a clumsy tackle (already on a yellow) and on balance more careless than reckless. Had a few other minor misdemeanours before but nothing caution worthy. . Rather than going for the 2nd yellow bring in skipper and warn that's it, nowhere...

    Pointless Courses

Just read about @DanCohen17's pointless mentoring course. I've got to do a mandatory 90 minutes on report writing. 90 minutes, being taught how to write. Seriously. Why not just identify those referees who need support rather than employing a large sledgehammer?

    Yesterday's Match

Cup tie - very competitive match and very entertaining. Teams not in my normal league nor were they in the same league. No unsporting behaviour, cynical stopping tackles, dissent, nonsense appeals or blaming me when goals were conceded. Not even close to showing a card throughout. Teams...

    Blowing full time

Bitty, bitchy, yappy game (9 yellow + 1 red with several on final warnings) - one team claiming too much added time, the other not enough for the perceived time wasting of the other. Blew it bang on 90.00 (96 odds on the running watch) with 1 team in a good position. Justified?

Why I Can't Be Bothered with NEURA (North East Ulster RA)

"Dear NEURA Member, At a committee meeting held on Sunday 27 September 2015 two proposals were brought, seconded and therefore passed to be brought before the membership. The first proposal was one of no confidence in Chairman, George Warnock. This was carried by seven votes to three. The...

    In the face ...

Simple question really - is a shove in the face always a red card? Gave it today - my above the neck policy - but I'm uneasy about I - he did it twice but no real force. There is context but that's a separate report and don't want it posted on open forum.

    Preventing keeper from releasing ball

Would you always caution a player for stopping keeper from kicking ball from their hands? I gave a player 2nd yellow for it yesterday but does in retrospect seem like a soft sending off, although I had previously warned against doing it after an earlier attempt.

    Eh? The Things You Hear

'I understand why you gave our keeper a yellow card for taking the attacker out 2 footed but don't understand why you gave a penalty.'

    Intro

Hello, thought I'd done this when first signed up but obviously not! As name suggests from County Down and referee junior football (ie lower level adult football). First qualified in the 90's but only going again properly for last few years. Site is very good.

    Violent Conduct?

Hi - yellow v red. Crunching tackle by yellow on red. After a few seconds have passed red player who was fouled retrieves ball as it comes back and lobs it - not very hard - against back of yellow's head. I showed straight red without hesitation but now doubting myself as wasn't excessive but...
