    Banned official

Extraordinary report. Describe events and name everyone. Let the club and offender explain themselves to the County FA. Could be expensive for both.

Old school ref - how to provide advice?

That almost reads like a promotion hopeful's response with an undertone of f*** off :) Hope you're looking after yourself Mr S. Take care.

Old school ref - how to provide advice?

I started this as a 3 line response, then it organically developed, sooooo..... Situation by situation... 1) What was the impact on the game? 2) When and where did it happen relative to your position? Were you being "busy"? Aaaannndddd... what was the impact on the game? 3) What was the impact...

    Hail

Around 2007. It (the hail) was horizontal. The wind chill factor was about -5. It lasted for 20 minutes in the first half and 15 in the second half. I stayed in the shower for about 20 minutes to defrost my freshly shaven head. Coldest I've ever been on a field.

    Varsity Games

That's how I started refereeing Open Age through BUCS games. They were a little testing as many of the players had played at quite a high level (if you got 1st or 2nds).

First game - random / probably obvious question

Fortunately I rarely refereed at multi pitch sites and "crowds" could usually be counted on the fingers of a closed fist :)

First game - random / probably obvious question

Wander off to where you left your bag (inside the back of the home keeper's goal was my place). Grab a drink. Eat a banana. Check you've recorded any cards correctly. Ask both teams if they want any subs. Wander back to the middle and get ready for the second half. Believe me, almost nobody will...

    Huddersfield Vs Leeds

Thought the referee was fine. Nothing special but good considering it's his first year at this level. Looked very assured when speaking to players and made sure they listened. Leeds looked tired. Huddersfield wanted to make amends for the drubbing they got in October and did so by...

How long does a DBS last?

I think it may be role related and your rollover DBS, even though enhanced, may not be accepted by the FA. I remember school not taking my enhanced DBS because it was for refereeing and not teaching. It might work the other way around. There may be a special application offered by the DBS which...

How long does a DBS last?

As far as I know, you can't add an existing DBS to the scheme, it can only be added within a very short time frame after the original application. So a new application will be required, complete with verification. After that you can give your ID number and the organisation does the annual...

    LEE v LEI

I won't comment much further as this is not a fan's forum. I still look at the game with the jaundiced eye of a former referee observer, tutor and mentor. It does sometimes impinge on my enjoyment of games. Even ones like this one! For example, in the second half when the ball went out of play...

    LEE v LEI

Trips or attempts to trip in a reckless manner... As for the DOGSO, I thought he gave a caution because he was going to award a penalty. I was about 60m away at the time though.

    Michael Oliver movement

He's always done that. Well for the last 12 years or so. He's a good lad, very much in the mould of MO and AM. Hard working match officials and genuine people..

    Lewis Smith - PL Debut

I've not seen Rebecca Welsh but I have seen Sam Allison on two games this season at Leeds. Quality referee who communicates well with the players and has the respect of all involved. If Lewis Smith and/or Rebecca Welsh are at a similar level, they deserve the chances they get.

    DBS - OA football

More importantly the enhanced DBS is role specific. For example I needed a separate DBS for refereeing from the one needed for teaching. This can be avoided by enrolling for the auto renewal scheme.

    Chris Wilder Comments

On the solitary occasion over 20 years that a club did bother to take it to the point where I was charged, the charge was thrown out when their witnesses gave very different accounts and their star witness was someone facing charges himself (from my misconduct reports). They were mildly...

    Giving yellows

If you get teamsheets in your competition, write up the player names before the game. Then it's a case of check the name (is it listed?), mark the offence in your book, warn them as to future conduct and show the card

    Port Vale v Portsmouth

The feeling isn't reciprocal Did I? Just trying to make your life more interesting.

    Port Vale v Portsmouth

Maybe because it was doing such heavy lifting in your post. You implied he was young and his actions impacted by another factor. You've been shown to be half wrong already.

    Port Vale v Portsmouth

My goodness, you're good. You can tell all of that from looking at a short video clip? As for being banned from working with children, if convicted, the person's name and offence will be recorded. It will be regarded as spent after a period of time. Anyone who wants to work with Young People...
