    First assistant referee assessment report

What kind of mark constitutes a good score? I just got a 76 which I assume is relatively good at supply league level?

    Law test question

The goalkeeper, using excessive force, strikes an opponent who is inside the goal, behind the goal line and off the field of play. The ball is in play. What decision should the referee make? (a) The referee sends off the goalkeeper and play is restarted with a penalty kick. (b) The referee...

When should a new ref register with a league?

Also it may be best to avoid Open Age football initially. U14,U15,U16,U18 football is a great learning ground. I learned a lot of my game management at U18 level, the laws will look after themselves as long as you revise LOTG. Law 5 and Law 12 are the main ones they test at level 9 from memory...

When should a new ref register with a league?

If you have the opportunity to, ask your RDO for some academy fixtures as it lets you practice the basics in a pressure free environment. Don't run before you can walk :)

    Crabbing and Flagging

Thanks Brian, can you just clarify from a L5/assessor point of view whether the flag should be transferred over to the right hand towards penalty area?

    Drinks Breaks

I wish we would have had a drinks break on Saturday, it was a good 24-28 degrees on the line. I've got a right sun tan today!

    Crabbing and Flagging

Thanks all, I understood that the left hand was correct and hence this feedback confused me. Every assessor has their own preferences I guess....

    Crabbing and Flagging

i was assessed on the line on Saturday and I got told that my crabbing was good but that I should hold the flag in my right hand as it was naturally in the right place to signal offside, corner, gk etc. is that correct as I was previously told to hold it in my left due to it being in the...

Another lovely question for you all :)

Did the GK leave the FOP to fetch the bottle? If so - perhaps there is the opportunity for a second yellow. I believe the law should be amended to cover this incident - imagine if it happened in the Championship P-O final £120m game and affected the result?! I must say though that this...

    Boots

Does everyone on here have 3 pairs of boots? The reason for my question is that we would be expected to reasonable operate on: Firm Ground Soft Ground Astroturf After the first few fixtures on (very) firm ground, I have a few blisters and was thinking that maybe I do need some FG boots -...

    Nerves for first game

Smile, Learn the tempo/manner of the game and reflect that in your style, finally trust your instincts - If your instinct is free kick, give a free kick etc. etc.

I wear contacts now, I used to referee in glasses, but have you ever tried running a line in a torrential downpour with water on your lenses!?! Impossible. Contacts makes everything easier :D

    Robert Green

Hi all, Handball outside the box by Robert Green v Swansea. I understand that it is a straight red but what reason would we have to put it down under in terms of reporting? Dogso handball? Serious Foul Play? Or another

    pre match - goal/no goal

I was looking to update my pre match and got as far as goal/no goal situations. Goal - easy enough if clear, AR runs to half way. If unclear but AR is confident, irritate flag then run to half way No goal - it is here I am unsure as to the best procedure to follow. Presumably the ball would...

    Promotion and 6-5 6-4

Hi all, I am just wanting to understand the differences between going 6 to 5 and 6 to 4. Also, generally what are the realistic differences between being a level 5 and a level 4. Nothing like learning from the experience of others :) Thanks in advance for your responses and I wish a merry...

    not my best game

Appreciate all the comments. I will certainly start early doors with the open/public 'dressing down' to set a level then a caution after that wouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
