Can the referee wear the same colour shirt as a goalkeeper?

As others have said, technically no but in the end it is going to come down to you, the match you are doing and if you are being accessed. If being accessed you are likely to want to go by the letter of the law, if not then you can be more relaxed about it, your choice in the end.

Addressing players by their first name....

Slightly different for me because I only do youth football, girls & boys, so not a big issue especially as I been doing both of the leagues long enough that there are a number of teams that I know well and they know me well too. Personally I quite like it as it makes for a more relaxed...

    Bleeding weather!

Got absolutely soaked and blooming cold on Saturday morning doing an U16 girls game but both games on Sunday were called off and to be honest I was more than happy to sit indoors in the warm and dry which also hadthe added advantage that I was able to watch the Chelsea v QPR game live which as a...

    Cup finals.....

Some how or other (god knows how) I have Senior Girls Development Cup (aka County Cup) final this coming Saturday, on the line for that one, the weekend after I have U16 Girls League Cup Final in the middle and I've just come back from the boys league cup finals meeting having found out that I...

    What do you do?

If the attacker is sporting enough to admit that the defender didn't touch it then why throw that sporting gesture back in his face so personally I don't see what is wrong with thanking the attacker for his honesty and awarding a goal kick.

    Surprise Decisions

If you believe it was a penalty then a penalty it was but (sorry but there is a but) the key word here is "surprise". If all 22 players are looking at you as if you are nuts for having given a decision and especially a potentially match changing decision then you can be 110% correct in law but...

    OFFINABUS U14's Game

When it comes to youth football I adjust my tollerance to the language on the field of play depending on the age of the players, the younger they are the less tollerance I have, I'm not saying that as they get older I'm dishing out cards all over the place more that I'm talking to them advising...

    Newly qualified ref- first match

"Still the odd decision going wrong" LOL - there isn't a season that goes by that we don't get the odd decision wrong but as long as they are small ones and you appear confident about those decisions, even if you realise a bit later that you get it wrong, then you will be fine. Eventually of...

    Second game

As Ross has said you will soon start to get a feel for these sort of decisions, some will be easy to give, some you will have to think about but the key word that Ross used was "dangerous" and in the end it doesn't matter how high it is or is not, if you think it is dangerous then that is all...

    First red this season

As Ross has said you were 100% correct with the red for OFFINABUS (there are two words that I will not tolerate under any circumstances and they both begin with C), however as Ross has also said maybe there might have been a way to nip this one in the bud before it got to the point of the red...

Coloured Kits - Would you wear one?

I'm proud to wear black! However if push came to shove then I guess I could live with wearing blue but there is no way come hell or high water I'm going to wear pink, it ain't for me.....

    Need one of these!

So we all going to get one of these to show to players when they moan when we give an offside? Won't stop them moaning of course but at least it will give them something to look at for a few seconds :)

    Biggest **** up ever !

The referee who says he has never made a ock up is one who has never actually done a game! I gave a penalty and pretty much as soon as I had blown the whistle and pointed to the spot I realised that it was actually a damn good piece of defending. The defending team of course protested (to their...

    Was i right to abandon

Totally right Andy, doesn't matter in the end if the player failed terribly and I'm glad he did, what with his actions and the actions of the manager there is more than enough there for anyone to be worried about their safety and as soon as you get to that point it is time to abandon.

Vidic - lucky to stay on the field

I agree with Padfoot, not all of the boxes for DOGSO were ticked for me so I think, for that one at least, the decision was correct and a yellow was the correct punishment.

    any opinions on diagonals?

When you have club assistants who (I would imagine in pretty much every league) are only allowed to indicate direction of a throw in, goal kicks/corners (and maybe offside depending on where you are) then sticking to a diagonal is going to be pretty near impossible because you have to be close...

    Van Persie sending off...

I think it would be safe to say that it was a little harsh, may have been technically correct by the LOTG but even so I think a word in the shell like along the lines of "you are in the last chance saloon sunshine" might have been better.

    U18s Further Problems

Unless you believed that the CAR was cheating, in which case you would need to do something about that yourself, then calling an assistant a cheat is pretty much as bad as calling you a cheat and therefore shouldn't you have been thinking about showing a red ?
