    U18 Referee Abuse

I had something similar a couple of seasons ago. U11's and the away team were getting hammered, something like 13-0 at half time. The home team coach asked me to tell the away coach that he could field extra players to make it more competitive, which he declined - he said the players on his...

    Report or not?

I know what you are saying and don't be disheartened from it. Regarding not getting allocated their games, i wouldn't worry about it (though that's easy for me to say as i'm alot older than you). Last season i reffed my son's U14's against the team that were top of the league. Prior to the...

    Report or not?

From reading some of your posts on other threads, i'd guess that you're under 18? Does your FA not promote the purple shirt campaign for refs under 18? Regardless if they do or not, if you are U18, you're still covered under child safeguarding and the manager shouldn't be speaking to you like...

Asking the time All the time!!

That happened to me in one of my first games reffing. A coach asked the time, i said 5 mins left. There was an injury where i stopped the watch for about 3 1/2 minutes. Restarted the game, played the extra time and the other team equalised. He was jumping up and down on the sideline saying that...

    Junior/Youth U11 pre game handshake??

I referee U11's, U12's U13's and always get the kids to line up and do the handshake. As they pass me and i shake their hand, i try and give some comment about nice boots, great haircut etc. I do this for 2 reasons. 1 - it breaks the ice. for some kids it may be the first time they've had an...

    Referee Assaulted

I know of a ref that got assualted just before xmas last year. The ref is in his late teens, the player was approx 22 years old. The player pleaded guilty to both the Police and FA. He got a 7 year ban and ordered to pay the ref £50.

    Worst games...

Hi Natalie, as others have said, well done for coming on here and asking for advice. I'm considerably older than you and i'm in my first season of refereeing, so I can't offer as good advice of what others above have said, but I can tell you that they have given good advice and i'll be putting...

Northlondonref - many thanks for the advice, i'm learning that very quickly :) Lincs22 - point 2 - you;ve basically said what my local RA said when i asked for advice. What's the point in Referee Association?

I joined my local RA and really enjoy the meetings (midweek pint etc). I've learn't loads since I joined (i passed the exam in december but joined in the september before). They have a Q&A session on anything that might be mentioned (decisions/incidents from local games to national games) and...

    Assistant Coach entering FoP

Hi SurreySuperRef, - many thanks for the good advice, I did report it on WGS, the basis of what happened above formed the basis of my report. The players and parents weren't contesting my decision, and as i said above, i had every intention of booking the keeper after he had received some...

    Assistant Coach entering FoP

Hi All, many thanks for your replies and comments Hoosier Ref - no it wasn't in the penalty area, it was just a free kick. I ought have yellow carded the red goalkeeper for the rugby tackle, but I missed that due to running over to the assistant coach. The parents, near to where it happened...

    Assistant Coach entering FoP

A couple of months ago, I had an assistant coach enter the field of play to question a decision i'd made. The incident is as described below. Red team were mid table, blue team were top of the league, with a large points gap between the two teams. Red U12's (Home Team) vs Blue U12's (Away...

    Offsides with CAs

CA's are only supposed to flag for ins and outs, When I ref, I ask for ins and outs, if they offer to flag for offsides, I tell them that I will consider their opinion (flagging) but the ultimate decision rests with me, so not to feel aggrieved if i overrule them. Like wise when I offer to run...

Expectations for basic course? And any info on the FA First Aid courses?

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum. I've just posted in another thread about the course I completed last summer in West Yorks. I was a bit apprehensive but the tutors and other potential referees were great. The ages ranged from approx 14/15 years old to a 60 year old, and was a mixture of...

    Starting a course

I did the course last summer. It was 2 full days (Sundays 9-5) and 2 evenings (5-9) - 1 of the evenings was the introduction to the course, the other was child welfare. As i've said on other threads, the course and tutors were great, it was presented in a fun, interactive but serious way. I was...

    Potential Referee

Hi Jal456 I did the course in the summer, and sat my theory exam last night - still waiting to hear if i've passed !!! :) . Since starting refereeing i've made loads of new friends and had a great time. The course tutors were great and answered loads of questions, gave us a couple of A4 sheets...

    Advantage from A throw-in.

All good points Miley, and as I said above, at U14 level and above (11 a side) I don't give allowances, but at U13 (9 a side) or below, I try to educate them. I have had kids (at U13 level) that have retaken throw ins, then a few minutes later, taken another foul throw and i've given it to the...

    Advantage from A throw-in.

Hi Ciley, many thanks for your input and advice, which i take on board. For most kids at this age, it is the first time they have had a match referee, prior to this it was probably an assistant coach or parent that probably played the game to their own set of rules. By trying to educate the...
