    Advantage question

Personally I would wait the usual long second before blowing the whistle. If an attacker has taken advantage and scored in that time then goal. If they've missed, then pull it back for a penalty. If they are still well positioned but haven't scored or missed in that time, penalty. I don't care...

    A "Farting" noise

The IDFK is to restart play if the play is stopped to caution the player. If the ball went out then that's not the case. As it transpired the ball did not go out, so IDFK following a caution is the correct restart.

    A "Farting" noise

It's definitely a USB caution for verbally distracting an opponent. But presumably the shot went out for a goal kick and play was not stopped to caution the player. So wouldn't it be a goal kick restart?

Goalkeeper sent off for removing pitch invader from the field

I am a goalkeeper @paulwfromtheden but it definintely would not be me doing the dragging. And I agree, it's foolish for players to get involved unless they are threatened, but I don't think physical manhandling is in itself excessive. Coincidentally I was at my daughter's referee training last...

Goalkeeper sent off for removing pitch invader from the field

Against another player or referee: excessive and brutal, VC. Against a pitch invader? Dragging off field is exactly what the security would do because it is perfect for the situation.

No referee in the EPL would have the balls to do this

I remember those criticisms in the papers, it's not all about the referee blah blah, backed up by idiot pundits. It's really short sighted though. One month of sendings off and manager whinging and it would be problem fixed. Lack of bottle from the FA and PGMOL.

    Is this unsporting behaviour?

I can't see any grounds for USB. The Blue forward didn't need to retreat - the GK is not controlling with hands and the forward can challenge for the ball.

Goalkeeper sent off for removing pitch invader from the field

I don't think that the force used was excessive or brutal for that situation. Throwing to the floor, punching in the head might be excessive, but dragging off the field seems a perfectly weighed action.

New York Red Bulls v Chicago Corner

This is why it is a crappy tactic that should be stamped out. If the 'ball in play' is not clear to the defenders then how can the ref be certain it is in play? Certainly not because of some verbal agreement between player and AR.

    Non-DOGSO penalty, Villa Notts County

I thought the second penalty was correct. Richardson to the ball first, pushed over.

    Non-DOGSO penalty, Villa Notts County

In last night's Villa - Notts County game, Bunn brought down McLeod with the classic clumsy foul of a keeper who's realised far too late that he's made a terrible error going for the ball, obvious penalty. Kavanagh did not call it DOGSO, presumably because McLeod would have reached the ball near...

"Nice to haves" for a new ref

This Saturday we turned up at my daughter's game, a 45 minute drive from home, at which point she announced that she had forgotten her whistle. Knowing what she's like I have always kept an old $1 whistle at the bottom of my bag. So she had to ref with a tiny whistle with a wooden pea, rather...

    Homophobic Language

It's pretty low grade language in the scheme of things, but I'd take a zero-tolerance approach and red card. Not that it's happened... possibly those words are a bit "gay".

    Thoughts?

Well she didn't caution anyone for it. But they play competitively at that level, and cards, goal scorers and best players are reported by the ref. While cautions are few and far between, goals are plenty as you'd imagine with an 8 yard goal and 5 foot keeper. And despite being U12 some team...

    Thoughts?

My daughter refereed a U12 game near the start of the season where the home team had three number 4s. At half time they got some gaffer tape and the second half started with a 4, 41 and 141.

The new clarification on interfering in an offside position

We get enough "But it touched a defender!" when an offside isn't called. I guess we'll now add to that with the defenders' interpretations of 'actions impacting on opponents'.
