Level 9 Referee
Just curious as to how much referees are paid at semi pro level of football ?
What level would you need to be and do you get to travel around the country ?

Contributory league referees (Northern Premier League - 1 below conference north - is the highest level) get paid £53 plus expenses per game. On the line you get £34. Not sure how much conference north/south or premier officials get.

I'm based in Leeds and get appointed to games in Newcastle, Manchester, Hull, Sheffield and Lincolnshire so you definitely do some travelling, though it's limited to approximately a 90 minute journey

For Contributory league games, the rules indicate we have to be there an hour before kick-off. However, it's usual practice to arrive 1:30hrs before the game. We would generally all arrive at the same time too, partly due to the fact that joint travel is encouraged to prevent charging the clubs too much on expenses.

I also understand that for Premier League and Premier League 2 (essentially Premier League U23 teams) games, the officials all have to be at the ground 2 hours before kick off. However, I'm sure one of the level 3's would be able to clarify that.

My understanding On our pool joint travel is expected, within reason i.e. meeting up on route. I am lead to believe that you have to ring and clear with the fa if you want to travel separately.

Seems over the top that

I regularly travel separately out of choice, just don't claim mileage.

@James Long - are you taking about Pools at supply league or contrib level?

The supply league pools are under the oversight of their leagues for expenses, not the FA. Each league /pool may be slightly different. I am involved in the admin of the Yorkshire Pool.
 
For contributory games.

Think only 1/4 supply leagues pay expenses anyway. In that league we are asked to reduce costs, if we can (and doing so probably helps the club marks).

Prpbably should have made that a little clearer :)
 
At contrib any official can ask for permission to opt out of joint travel, but it will almost certainly mean they can't claim expenses. The exception seems to be if you are travelling from work instead of home, especially if you have told the FA you will regularly be going to midweek games from work.
 
What if you want to travel separately because you want to go an see an Ed Sheeran concert after the match. Would you have to get FA Permission for that????...

Of course ..! PL referee are different, they always meet up at a hotel and are then bussed to the ground to avoid conflict with supporters.

£34 doesn't seem that much. Its £35 for an assistant on 'Ryman' development (U23) league and us humble L7s can do those.

Thats in line with efl youth alliance - what does a referee get on ryman development and what level are they normally?

Seems about right then really. Get paid 0.34p/per mile on contrib as well so if you do have to travel a bit the fee will go up.
 
Fees across the border are very good in my eyes.

Welsh National League prem (county league) Ref £30 I think plus milage, assistants are £25 plus mileage.
Cymru Alliance (Tier 2) Ref £45 plus mileage assistant £35 plus mileage
Welsh Prem Ref £180 assistant £90.

Can I ask, what leagues do you mean when you say supply/contrib? E.G which ones county leagues and which ones regional (e.g evo stik leagues)
 
Evo stick or northern premier league prem and div1 and the leagues below (north east counties and north west counties premier divisions and northern league premier division) are contributory leagues in my region.

Supply leagues are north east counties division 1 and the West Yorkshire, York and hull premier leagues. North East counties is a step above the others.

In the South of England the contributory leagues are Ryman and Southern Leagues which are at steps 3 and 4 of the pyramid. Supply leagues, which are at step 5, include Spartan South Midlands, Essex Senior, Hellenic, Combined Counties, Wessex League, etc.
 
Contrib:
Middle = £53. Line = £34. Expenses £0.34 a mile

Conference South:
Middle = £65. Line = £40. Expenses £0.35 a mile

FA Qualifying (Prelim, First etc...)
Middle = £45. Line = £25. Expenses £0.40 a mile
