Dual registration

The Referee Store
Good Q. I live in Surrey (and registered here) but work in London and have considered registering with London to possibly pick up week night games....not sure if necessary/possible/advisable.

I think there are money issues invovled (isn't there always) and I seem to remember hearing that this isn't great news for your home county. Be interested in what people have to say.

Just helps me ref throughout the year - in Oxford for university and then back home in Manchester - just means I can get games all the time.

Dorset is my parent county FA and I am also registered to Hampshire.

Live in Bournemouth which falls under the jurisdiction of Hampshire FA. When I decided to go "official" and looked into courses, Dorset FA was the nearest and as my son was playing in the Dorset league at the time, did my course with them. Couple of years later started refereeing in the Bournemouth league, so made sense to register with Hampshire as well.

Since duel registration had requests for my services from leagues in as far as field as Wiltshire as well as my home counties! :D

The only advantage I see is when you split your times between different areas eg studying away from home for part of the year. You'd need to keep both bodies aware of your availability.

Are you actually allowed to register in more than one area? In Scotland I'm pretty sure that you can only register in one RA but that might not be 100% correct.

When I re-registered through WGS, there was a tick box asking if you want to register with another county as well as your parent county with a drop down list of available county FAs.

I assume it would open the door to county appointments in multiple areas (e.g. for county cups).

Correct. I was dual-registered, AFA & Hertfordshire. Rarely did AFA games (too far to travel and I hated the County!), but did numerous Herts ones. I lived in Herts, but did my original course through AFA, who wouldn't release me to Herts, so I found the best way round it.

Thanks Dan

Last season I was "invited" to be an associate member of London FA - decent communication, but not appointed to any County Cup matches and all the "spare" appointments were the other side of London to me, so bit of a waste of time really.

Not really sure anyone has answered my question, do you HAVE to be registered with the County that the competitions you officiate on are registered?

How would I go about registering with Herts (As my "2nd" county)?

Thanks

I've never come across that as a requirement, no.

You should be able to register affiliate membership through your WGS account, although maybe only when you do your annual registration. I'm sure if you contact the county they could add you.

I've registered with Middlesex already for 17/18, but yes will make contact with Herts FA for definitive answer.

Can't remember what I did with London registration last year!

I'm solely registered with the Royal Navy FA but regularly referee'd this season on two civilian leagues back home at weekends. I've also now registered as an AR for midweek games on a Step 5 league in the part of the country where I'm based; so no you don't HAVE to register with different counties. If that were the case I'd need at least three different county badges for my shirt!

Ok another question folks!

Have had confirmation form Herts FA that once you are registered with one county FA you can referee anywhere in the country without any further action.

However RDO there advised that I could become an associate member of Herts FA, "when I register with Middlesex".

However, as I have already done this, I can't see anywhere on Whole Game where I can now add an Associate Membership of another county?

Anyone able to help?

Thanks

I emailed Herts FA, apparently (I don't remember!) I DID request associate membership - RDO has approved - so all sorted!

When I register I will put down Cambridgeshire , Norfolk and Essex as I am close to all 3. I did my training in Cambs so have done a couple of games there, I am only 10 miles from Norfolk and North essex is only 20 miles away closer than some of Suffolk!
