Same happened to kieren westwood down there.. well not the same.. thats horrific. Same player though and has got away with another. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Marvin Sordell, thats a cowards tackle. Ref needs a look at himself too!!! Not even yellow, or a foul WTF!!....

Where about was the ref when and/or assistant when this happens?

I agree it’s a cheeky old tackle, and well deserving of a red card

Need a video really. Was Sordell's foot already there and Coutts kicked into it, or was it the other way round? That kind of injury normally happens when an opponent lunges into a planted leg, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

I've slowed it down frame by frame, and to be honest I think it was a total accident. Coutts is shaping to shoot, and Sordell is looking over his shoulder to see the ball, then raises his foot to try and kick it. Coutts gets the shot away, and the momentum of his shooting leg means he kicks into Sordell's outstretched (and straight) leg.

There's still an argument for a red card, as it clearly can't be argued that it endangered an opponent - the straight leg that I referred to is why I think a red can be justified. I'm much less sure about excessive force, and I think most players would have done the same in trying to block the shot. That's why I think it was a freak accident more than anything else. I've seen broken feet from kicking into an outstretched leg, but I don't ever recall seeing a player break his leg in that way. Also, when an injury like that happens you normally see team mates racing after the player who has caused it, but there doesn't seem to be any of that here.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

I get all that Rusty as a Ref and a fan,
What I can’t understand is there was no decision from either official to even acknowledge a foul!

In real time the straightened leg looks a bit naughty. In fairness to the officials as we all know, in the penalty area in that situation there's so many things to look at, like a handball outside of the assistants area of credibility. Assistant was brilliantly angled to see the straight leg by Sordell.. definite red card for me
