Cup Final Kit

Evening All,
Quick question for you.
Is it strange that our local County FA request that all kit MUST have a County badge for the cup final that you have been appointment but they won't supply a warm up top before the game.
They are requesting that you turn up as a unit (ref, 2 assistants and 4th) so you look a team yet they don't mind what you are wearing whilst doing the group warm up - when the crowd are there.
Are there any other Counties that are not supplying this year as they say they don't have funds?? Even though Nike would have given them a budget for the season.

Let me know

Thanks

It's not at all strange that they expect officials to wear the county badge when taking charge of county cup games. As far as I'm aware, this is standard for matches in every round, let alone the finals.

With regard to a warm up top, it's not been provided at either of the County Cup finals I've been fortunate enough to be involved in. Which is a shame, I agree, but not something I'm particularly concerned about .. just nice to get the appointments!

A badged warm up top and rain jacket has been the norm down my way over previous seasons.

A free county tie would have been nice when I did my first one

My county expect you to wear county badge when on county competitions, they did have the cheek to email all county cup final refs why not buy a new nike badged kit with out county FA Badge, which reluctantly I did as I had a womens fa cup 5th round game and have a womens premier league cup final on Sunday.

a small or a medium?

they can have it back as long as they don't mind the 'banner to Hulk' look lol

Apparently no budget available!!
last season they gave us warm up tops and county jacket for the 4th official. I hear this year they are supplying a tracksuit for the 4th official but it will be a small or medium and has to be returned immediately after the game so it can be given to the next game!!
Lots of new clobber for all the new academy guys though, funnily enough!

Discrimation for the 4th Official :rolleyes:
Lets get the lawyers involved, where there is blame there is a claim. Please Sir, I did not get the final because I was a "large".
Case won, have a lollipop - No that is what got me into this problem in the first place.:D

I was appointed to a County Cup Final a couple weeks ago, scheduled for 1st May and we were told that we won't get a match fee but a 'commemorative trophy instead'.

And you guys are talking about getting free clobber??

No match fee? I don't ref for the money (obviously) but the only non-match fee game I would do would be for a charity or for a friend.

Obviously that's entirely your prerogative mate. That said, can't see many FAs being thrilled at that stance, having appointed you to one of their highest profile matches. Whilst it would be lovely if every FA supplied their cup final officials with a fee and/or kit in lieu, even if they choose not to it's still significant recognition and an opportunity to display your skills in front of the key folk in the county hierarchy ....

Careful that you make a distinction between a "County Cup Final" and "League Cup Finals". I ran the line for the latter and similarly, got a medal, a drink at the bar after and some food, but no match fee.

On the other hand, a full County final (as appointed by your county FA rather than by the league), I think it's standard practice to give you "stuff" on top of/in lieu of a cash payment. Hence the OP's surprise that there wasn't going to be any "stuff" coming his way.

That's great. Which cup final is it? I refereed the Cheshire Youth Cup Final a few seasons ago. It was a great honour to do that. The story of what happened after the game is for another thread though!!!

No, not "free clobber", but payment in kind for the professional service that we are providing to a revenue and profit making organisation.

Clobber = Clothes
Free = Nil Payment

Free Clobber

It's a Cheshire Youth Cup Final, appointed by the county.

I'm only 4th mate. Think they're using me to my strengths of eating wine gums and taking the piss out of anybody who comes within walking distance of the technical areas.

Please PM me the story!

The "stuff" you get in the barren wastelands of the north is a tie, a pin and a medal afterwards. That's standard practice, not giving a freeloader some free kit.

It's people like the OP that really piss me off about refereeing. You think because you've got a cup final, probably given to you in front of a few people more deserving than you (because of their ability, commitment and service) they have to give you some free gear as well. I think I might have to drop a line to your RDO to let her know how ungrateful you are to receive this prestigious appointment.

And for the LP, Leagues tend to have more money to splash around.

I'm not being ungrateful and I haven't been given any prestigious appointments! I was simply parroting what I understood tends to be the case - and clarifying that not all "cup finals" are created equal.

If you read my reply I was referring to the OP who was ungrateful. You were the LP and talking about League Cup Finals.
