Mark Sampson Sacked

Bristol Academy was a seniors team.

If he slept with a player who was under 18 then there's other issues to consider. Otherwise, without further information. I don't see how it's much different than a manager sleeping with their employee.

He started off wth under 18s

Let's not forget that this safeguarding report was written while he was in a position of responsibility at Bristol Academy.

Even without that aspect however, it's still well within the FA's right to decide a relationship between a coach and player is inappropriate. Policies like that are up to individual "companies" and breeches of them can be punished as the company sees fit.

The word academy is a bit of a red herring.

If the player he is accused of sleeping with was 16 or older at the time then legally he has done nothing wrong.

However, that is not to say that I condone what is alleged to have taken place.

And, even though he was cleared by the inquiry at the time when combined with the other allegations his association with the England Ladies team needed to come to an end.

It does seem that this was handled exceptionally badly, the first enquiry into the racism allegations should have put this to bed, and how it has gone on through a second enquiry and now possibly a third soon to happen is beyond me.

Disagree with that. The age is 18. Even then, its not a clear cut "all's OK, now she's 18" as he would be in a position with a duty of care so its not the same as if you just met an 18 yr old down the Dog & Duck & struck up a relationship.

Of course, it is all just speculation, but I doubt he slept with anyone under the age of 18 - as soon as that came to light it wouldn't have been up to the FA to prevaricate and postpone until after the Russia game, it would have been a police matter instantly.

All conjecture, but I suspect something happened on his watch - not between him and a third party - but between another two indivuiduals, but he did not take the necessary safeguarding steps. (i.e. he turned a blind eye to what was going on)

Perhaps from an FA safe guarding perspective, but the age of consent is 16, not 18, therefore legally if he had s relationship with a player as long as they were 16 or older at the time then he would be ok from a legal standpoint.

But you are correct that this is pure speculation, as we don't know the nature of the allegations made against him.

However, I do wonder if he might have grounds for unfair dismissal as he was checked out by the safeguarding department and was given the all clear.

And this has all been handled so badly that this looks like they have used this to get rid of him as the racism allegations weren't going away, even though two inquiries had already cleared him of any wrong doing.

It wouldn't.

It is illegal for someone in "a position of trust" (e.g teachers, doctors, carers) to have sex with someone under 18. Although I am no expert, I strongly suspect that a coach of someone in their team or academy would be classed as being in a position of trust.

Isn't it called statutory rape?

Careful Jack, we don't know the full facts of that particular misconduct case, the FA did and did nothing at the time or in the cases that followed. To dismiss the players 'story' but to pay her £80K seems to smell of cover up and gagging order... It will all come out... Heads should roll!!

Statutory rape is having sex with a minor. A minor in England is under the age of 16. Above that (16-18 specifically), position of trust is defined as those within loco parentis, so yes, a coach would count.
However, as stated earlier in this thread, Sampson's accusation and the resulting investigation wasn't in relation to anything like that. It was a senior women's player (over 18) and not an academy. Therefore, loco parentis (and stat rape) aren't considered at all. It's why the recommendation wasn't to have him removed/blacklisted, as he'd done nothing illegal
