I just bought this armband for my smartphone. Reason: I want to get an idea of how much I run while practising and maybe even when officiating a match. Hopefully you can help me. Does anyone of you have experience with running apps? I’ve used Runtastic (free version) once, but would like to try other alternatives. Which app has been useful to you? Does someone know if there are running stats of professional referees? I’ve found many of Champions League and Europa League players, but not of the officials. Would be nice to have a look at that stats too. Continue reading...
You may have heard about the tragic plane crash in Russia earlier this week where many people lost their life. On the plane was Vladimir Pettai a FIFA Referee and he also lost his life. The 38-year-old Vladimir Pettai had been a top-flight Russian referee since 2003 and in 2010 earned the status of a FIFA match official, one of the highest honours in his profession. Pettai had refereed a match between Premier League sides Dinamo and Rubin Kazan over the weekend and was flying from Moscow's Domodedovo airport to the city near where he was born. He was scheduled to referee another match Sunday between the country's most titled team Spartak Moscow and Rostov. Sad News. Seen via Goal.com Continue reading...
On Saturday 7th March 2012, I was appointed for my first game in charge of a ‘real-life’ football match – the boy became a man, refereeing (of a local league Division 4 game) became a reality… In the interests of fair play and, probably more importantly, in an attempt to avoid sounding boring, this blog was never intended to provide a minute by minute post-mortem of a match or individually name teams/players that I take charge of on a Saturday afternoon. A short summary and mention of any contentious decisions is more than enough, so here we go… Overall, considering this was my first game, I thought things went rather well (I would say that, I’m a referee now) and I enjoyed being out on a football pitch for the first time in 20 years as...

Before considering a few useful comments that you might make to players on the field of play, you might think about a few general hints. Some of them you may already know about, but it will do no harm if you think about all of them. First of all, remember that your bearing will reflect your confidence. Do not slouch your way onto the field before the tossing of the coin, because if you do the players will notice it and your game will not proceed in the best possible way. Are you aware of the difference between confidence and arrogance? The first is your friend; the second is definitely your enemy. Nobody likes an arrogant referee, except those players who enjoying causing you some grief. Never watch the ball that is kicked high...
Football referees on national top level will all appear in their new outfit the next weeks. Brands made all some new referee kits for the 2012/2013 season. Spanish referees are also wearing Adidas kits, sponsored by Würth. “We are happy with this because the brand is inside the field in every game of the Spanish League no matter what teams are playing”, says a spokesperson from the sponsor. “[Sponsoring referees] is good for a premium brand as we are.” Jose Antonio Teixeira in the new 2012/2013 referee kit from Adidas. You may or may not have heard of the Adidas Mi Coach system. This is a sports training system similar to the Nike+ that gives you data on your performance. A while back Adidas incorporated this tech into football boots, so players could look up their performance data. This years all start game in the US will be smart as it will be used to launch the team tracking element of MiCoach. It looks to be like a variation of Prozone, however the extension to this will be the fact that fans will be able to view the data as well. 10 weeks of my summer were spent running up hill and down dale in an effort to get ready for today's kick-off only for my best laid plans to go awry in the last 3 weeks as I picked up a calf strain. I kept losing weight because of my change in diet and starting a new job but my training was on hold. I've managed to lose 26lbs (11.8kg) since the beginning of June. So it was with some trepidation that I stepped out on my opening 11 a side game of the season. I had some nagging doubts as I felt a bit of tiredness in it yesterday when I was working with a group of new referees on their Basic Course. As things turned out I had good reason to be wary as I managed to tweak the calf again in the warm-up and walked for most of the first half...
