This Saturday I will be at my first game as a supply league assessor. Going to be an interesting experience, and one Im looking forward to. Ive found with the colder weather that Ive missed being involved recently. For me this is when the season starts, the cold weather, crap pitches and floodlights. Where are you this weekend, what game will you be involved in as a player, referee, or spectator? Post in the comments below. You can post anonymously as I know for a fact there are some football league guys who read this. Continue reading...
Looks like we may be able to get a weekend of football this week, after all the recent call offs. I will be tommorow tutoring at the County FA on a prospective referee's course. Its looking to be a busy course with 16 candidates. The plan was only confirmed on Wednesday so its been a bit of a rush as I need to deliver the following topics Throw in, Goal Kick, Corner Kick Applying the advantage Managing the defensive wall at Direct & Indirect Free Kicks Indirect Free Kicks (when) Plus a bit around the refereeing structures and administration Hopefully then I will be able to watch the League Cup Final on Sunday. What game will you be at this weekend? Continue reading...

Ive seen this story now twice in the last few days and what a load of pants. So the story being reported that the Referee sent off six players during an FA Youth Cup clash between Newport County and Bath City Academy. The reason being that they were wearing white pants under their shorts whcih could be seen. The Sun rreports this as a little known FA Rule. its not a FA Rule, but a FIFA law. This would then be cascaded down to the FA Rules as a result. This has been in place for many years now. Also there not exactly pants looking at the picture but cycling shorts . However from a practical refereeing point of view. This should have been spotted during the pre match jewelry and equipment checks. If was done and these were not...

Ive just been preparing the indoor session for next weekends new course, that I am tutoring on. The session I need to deliver (and be assessed to get my tutor level 1 status) is Law 8, the Start and Re-Start of play. I was looking around for any footage of a coin toss and found this Pepsi ad from the 1990's. It struck me as my very first game, I forgot the coin! As it was a u12's game I hid the whistle in a hand and said guess the hand!!
Tim Cahill scored his first goal for New York Red Bulls after his move from Everton this summer. Unfortunately it was somewhat controversial. Watch the video and see if you can spot the issue that the commentators couldn’t figure out. Tip you will need sound! Yep that’s right the Referee blows for a penalty and runs towards the spot before Cahills shot on target. At that momment the game is dead, instead the Referee tries to give the advantage to New York. I understand what he is doing but there are two bits where he fails, one he has stopped play, but also if he is going to play the advantage then he needs to signal this. You may have noticed over on the right of the blog (yeah over there) an Amazon link for The Referee's or below if its not working for any reason This is a film that has been around for a couple of years following the Referee's at Euro 2008. Quite why its taken so long to come out here I don't know. I haven't seen it as yet, although have it on order for a few months now. However the guardian have a review of it on their site currently. One of the main parts of the film though I belive is Howard Webb and the Poland game where he gave the late penalty. I read an interview with the director where he had said up to that point it had been quite a boring job to work on where not a lot was happening.
If your aware of Google+ then this will make sense to you, if not don't worry :) Google. have now opened up "brands" on Google+. Now I don't see this blog as a Brand (what is a brand anyway). However I thought I'll grab the page while I can, but also may be able to do something more interactive than the blog allows. Ill feed the blog in, but also put some other content up there. It may be that with my thoughts with the blog, that it may become an extension or replacement for the blog. Link to the page on Google+ Continue reading...
Reblogged from TechCrunch: Traditional whiteboards are great for nearly everything but portability. Scribbling down physics problems? Sure. Impromptu game of tic-tac-toe? Of course. Folding up and putting it in your pocket? Not really possible with a normal whiteboard. But the Noteboard isn’t a normal whiteboard. It’s a dual-side, foldable whiteboard that might just change the world (but probably not). When unfolded the Noteboard is about the size of 27 notecards but it collapses into a pocket-friendly package. Read more… 98 more words Could be a useful bit of kit for new Ref courses!
